Protect Privacy

PLATE stands for Public Liberty & Accountability Through Exposure.

West LA is being quietly blanketed by a network of "Flock" surveillance cameras. While sold as a tool for public safety, independent researchers like Ben Jordan have exposed deep security flaws in these systems, leaving them vulnerable to hackers and unauthorized access.

At PLATE, we believe your daily movements shouldn't be a matter of public record or a tool for potential abuse. We monitor local government contracts, expose hardware vulnerabilities, and provide you with the tools to demand transparency from city officials in Santa Monica, Culver City, and LA. We don’t just watch the cameras—we watch the people who operate them.

In the Youtube video, Ben goes in depth on the issues associated with this technology, its quite frightening in a fairly dry kind of way.

Our Mission

PLATE stands for Public Liberty & Accountability Through Exposure. The name reflects our core mission: protecting the Public Liberty of West LA residents from invasive surveillance, demanding Accountability from the officials who implement these systems, and using Exposure—through research and public awareness—to bring hidden government tracking into the light. We believe that transparency is the only effective check on the growing reach of automated surveillance.
